The French Open French Les Internationaux de France de Roland Garros or Tournoi de Roland-Garros, is a major tennis tournament held over two weeks between late May and early June in Paris, France, at the Stade Roland Garros. It is the second of the Grand Slam tournaments on the annual tennis calendar and the premier clay court tennis tournament in the world. Roland Garros is the only Grand Slam still held on clay and ends the spring clay court season.
It is one of the most prestigious events in tennis. Because of the slow playing surface and the five-set men's singles matches without a tiebreak in the final set, the event is widely considered to be the most physically demanding tennis tournament in the world.
The singles champions for 2009 are Swiss male Roger Federer and Russian female Svetlana Kuznetsova.
The 2010 tournament will commence on Sunday May 23.

Tennis icon Billie Jean King was taping an episode of Rick Reilly’s “Homecoming” on Wednesday, April 14, at our club!
Billie Jean King is from Long Beach and won her first tournament here as a 12-year-old.
ESPN did a marvelous job turning one of the eight courts into a set, complete with a canopy that covered the court entirely and left plenty of room for the seating of special guests of King and as well as a few dignitaries. The City of Long Beach was represented by city council members Gerrie Schipske (5th), Gary DeLong (3rd), and Tonia Reyes Uranga (7th) and acting Fire Chief Alan Patalano.
The guests who weren't hidden behind a curtain included contemporaries of Billie's from her playing days - Rosie Cassels, Val Ziegenfuss and Zina Garrison - and others from different generations - Chris Evert, Tracy Austin and Maria Sharapova.
The show was taped and will debut on ESPN on July 3.
